Michael Fassbender, born April 2, 1977, in Heidelberg, is a German-Irish actor. His parents moved to Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland when he was two years old where he attended St. Brendan's, and the Drama Centre in London. At 6'1" tall, with blue eyes and light brown hair, Fassbender plays guitar, piano, and accordion and speaks fluent German. Fassbender was Grand Marshall of the 2010 St. Patrick's Day parade in his hometown of Killarney.
He first played the part of Burton 'Pat' Christenson in Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg's award-winning series "Band of Brothers." He also potrayed the character of Azazeal in both series of "Hex" on Sky One. He appeared in "Angel" (UK title: The Real Life of Angel Deverell), about the rise and fall of an eccentric young British writer in the early 20th century. In it, Fassbender plays her love interest, the average painter Esmé. In 2007 Fassbender played Spartan soldier Stēlios the Zack Snyder epic film "300." Also in 2007, he appeared briefly in TV movie "Wedding Belles" as Barney, speaking with a Scottish accent. For the 2008 film, "Hunger" Fassbender underwent a crash diet to play Irish Republican Army prisoner Bobby Sands, who died during a hunger strike in 1981. For is efforts, he received the Best Actor award at the British Independent Film Awards.
Fassbender was cast as Richard Wirth in the Joel Schumacher film "Blood Creek", alongside "Prison Break" star Dominic Purcell. One year after his success at the Cannes Film Festival with "Hunger," he appeared in two more career-building films. The first, for which he is best known by international audiences, was his role as Lt. Archie Hicox in Quentin Tarantino's 2009 hit remake of "Inglourious Basterds." The other film was "Fish Tank" directed by Andrea Arnold, and for both, he received much critical acclaim.
His current projects include the 2010 roles of Burke in the soon to be released "Jonah Hex", and Quintus Dias in Neil Marshall's War-Thriller-Drama film "Centurion." Thus far for 2011, he is set to play Mr. Rochester in the film "Jane Eyre," featuring Mia Wasikowska in the title role, with Cary Joji Fukunaga directing, a character named Paul in the upcoming "Knockout," and Carl Jung in "A Dangerous Mind."
