Lance Reddick, born December 31, 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American theater, film and TV actor and musician who plays the part of Smith, Jonah Hex's armorer of sorts. He starred in The Wire as Cedric Daniels, appeared in Oz as Detective Johnny Basil and appeared in the fourth and fifth seasons of Lost. He now has a prominent role in Fringe. Previously Reddick also starred in two episodes of Law & Order, and appeared in the 2003 Jay-Z/Beyoncé music video "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" as the lead police officer.
Reddick joined the ABC hit series "Lost" in 2008 appearing in multiple episodes as Matthew Abaddon, a ruthless corporate recruiter. He was the third of four actors from the HBO original series "OZ" to star in the drama along with Harold Perrineau, Ken Leung and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. According to producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, they were interested in Reddick for the part of Mr. Eko but he was unavailable due to the filming schedule of "The Wire" so Akinnuoye-Agbaje was approached instead. Reddick tends to bring a characteristic of focus and intensity to his roles.
In early 2008 he was cast in a key role for the pilot episode of "Fringe" in which fellow "Oz" actor Kirk Acevedo also had a regular role. Reddick plays Phillip Broyles, the head of an FBI department that investigates paranormal activities. Reddick describes the hard-driving character as "a real ass. But he's also one of the good guys." As with "Lost", "Fringe" is co-created and produced by J.J. Abrams.
